Location: Highway 38, Scottsburg
Name: Not Named

A two-vehicle head on collision resulted in one fatality, as well as several injuries, on Saturday, April 12, 2014

Police report that the accident occurred on Saturday morning, on a stretch of Highway 38 near Scottsburg. An unnamed pickup truck driver collided with a Ford F550, that was carrying helicopter fuel and drums of Atrazine, a herbicide. While fuel did spill out of the vehicle, it did not cause any damage to the wildlife in the area, according to authorities.

The driver of the pickup died on impact, while the two occupants in the F550 suffered minor injuries. They were taken by ambulance to Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport.

Highway 38 had to be closed for several hours as investigators cleared the scene and cleaned up the spilled fuel. State police, the Douglass County Sherriff’s office, the state Department of Transportation and a regional hazardous materials team all cooperated in the clean up efforts.

We would like to express our sympathy to the family and friends of the man killed in the accident. Our sympathies are with you. We would also like to wish the injured parties fast and full recoveries.

If you or a loved one was injured in a trucking accident, consider contacting a compassionate and competent Portland truck accident attorney. They will be able to explain to you the extensive investigation required by these accidents.

Truck accidents require extensive investigation to determine liability. The insurance company that works for the trucking company will look at witness statements, trucking logs, cell phone records of both drivers, police reports, the trucking company’s safety record. Be aware that this is happening, and do not sign any documents from that company without speaking to a lawyer.

You should investigate also. Take pictures at the site of the accident, keep your medical records and bills, and exchange information with the truck driver.

The next steps (seeking medical treatment, investigating the trucking company, bringing a personal injury claim, etc.) can be tricky and overwhelming. Let a Portland personal injury lawyer help you get better, by letting you focus on yourself, instead of the at-fault driver.
