Product Liability Suit Filed in Death of Bend Oregon Man
Date: July 14, 2010
Location: Bend, Oregon
Name: Gary Lee Price
A lawsuit has been filed against STL International, Inc. of Puyallup, Wash in relation to the death of a man who died after being stuck upside down on an inversion therapy table manufactured by the company.
The lawsuit alleges that 64-year-old Gary Lee Price died as a result of the machine. They are alleging that on July 14, 2010, Price was using one of the company’s inversion tables. At some point, he because trapped in the inverted position and was unable to return to the upright position to remove himself from the machine. The medical examiner reported that Price died in an accident and that the cause of death was asphyxia.
The estate of Gary Price is suing the manufacturer, claiming that the Teeter Hangups EP-850 model machine he was using was “was dangerously defective and caused Gary Price’s death because of inadequate warnings on the machine or its manual on the dangers of becoming trapped in the inverted position.”
Machines such as this can become very dangerous is they are not working right. It has been reported that extended periods of hanging upside down can results in death or other serious injuries such as asphyxia, blood clots to the brain, and kidney failure.
In Oregon, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers are all responsible for the safety of their products. If you or a loved one has experienced an accident similar to Gary Price’s, contact an Oregon product liability attorney to protect your rights.
You can seek compensation for injuries from:
- Design defects: when the poor or flawed design of a product makes it dangerous
- Manufacturing defects: when a problem is introduced during manufacturing that makes a product dangerous
- Marketing defects: when the warning labels or instructions are not sufficient or appropriate to protect consumers from injury
By pursuing damages from companies that allow unsafe products to be created, distributed, and sold in Oregon, you may be helping others who have had similar experiences. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, over 30 million people are injured every year in the United States due to defective products.
Do not wait to get help: contact a Portland product liability attorney for a free consultation as soon as possible. In product liability cases, it can be imperative to get pictures and start investigating what happened as soon as possible, because product liability cases have their own special (and very difficult) statutes of limitations (ORS 30.905), which can be much shorter than the more common statutes.
