Head-On Collision on Hwy 224 Leaves Two Injured

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a head-on collision on Highway 224 west of Barton. The crash happened around 2:20 Friday afternoon.

The report on Oregon Live.com said the accident happened when an eastbound 2005 Toyoya Scion lost control on a curve in the highway near milepost 14. The car, which was being driven by Gina Newman, 44, from Fairview, crossed the center line, directly into the path of a 2003 Ford F350 pickup being driven by Kenneth Stricklin Jr., 47, from Happy Valley.  Stricklin braked hard and tried to swerve, according to witnesses, but was unable to get out of the way, and the vehicles collided head-on.

Clackamas County Fire District personnel had to extricate Newman from the wreck. She was then flown by LifeFlight to OHSU Hospital, where she is being treated for serious injuries. Stricklin Jr. was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

We would like to wish both Gina Newman and Kenneth Stricklin Jr. a full and speedy recovery from their injuries after this frightening accident.
